Ronald Lynn Starr, a beloved resident of Grand Ledge, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 31, 1936, in Lansing, Michigan, to the late J. Ervin and Abigail (Dailey) Starr. Ron was a proud member of the Class of 1954 at Grand Ledge High School, who later served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1964. Throughout his career, Ron dedicated 36 years to the State of Michigan, serving in the Departments of Revenue and Mental Health before concluding his distinguished public service career as Director of Information Services for the Michigan Department of Education. He took pride in serving the people of Michigan and approached his work with integrity and professionalism. A devoted member of St. Michael Parish, Ron was guided by strong values and a deep devotion to his family and community. Ron was known for his entrepreneurial spirit, tireless work ethic, and love of a good treasure hunt. He enjoyed hunting, attending gun shows, and traveling the back roads of Michigan in search of antiques, collectibles, and hidden bargains. Blessed with a keen eye for opportunity and a talent for negotiation, Ron often transformed overlooked treasures into profitable finds through his antique business in Lake Odessa and an annual garage sale that became legendary in the community. In his younger years, Ron developed a passion for photography and filmmaking, capturing memories through his creative lens and sharing his productions at family movie nights, complete with his own "stove-popped" popcorn. Perhaps nowhere was his dedication more evident than at the family farm and homestead, where he first moved to at the age of eight and spent countless hours restoring, improving, and caring for the property he loved. The farm was more than a home-it was a reflection of Ron's deep connection to his family's roots. Ron cherished his family above all, leaving behind his beloved spouse of nearly sixty years, Capitola "Cappi" Starr, as well as his sons Todd (Renae), Adam (Amy), and Andrew (Kelly). He was a proud grandfather to Hannah, Hayden, Holly, Lily, Ian, Maxwell, Isabella, Madelyn, Connor, and Cameron. To them, he was not just a father and grandfather, but a source of unconditional love and support. He was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Mary Starr; twin brothers, Alvin and Ervin; sisters, Kathleen Bassett and Roberta McCully. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 27, 2026, 10:00 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church in Grand Ledge by The Reverend Fr. James Eisele. A luncheon will immediately follow the mass at the church. Rite of Committal with military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge. Visitation will be Friday, June 26, 2026 at the Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home, Grand Ledge from 5-8:00 PM with a scripture service at 7:30 PM and Saturday at the church from 9-10:00 AM. Ronald Lynn Starr will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but for his warmth, kindness, and steadfast devotion to God, his country and the Marine Corps. He will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
