Jerry Lee Prior

April 10, 2025 Jerry went to be with his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his best friend and wife Sandy, along with family and friends at, their marital home in Lansing. Jerry was born in Mackinaw City on June 13, 1935 to Leon and Meta Prior, Jerry enjoyed growing up in Mackinaw City. He helped his grandparents, Charles and Caroline Wagner, with many of their businesses including the hot dog stand on the docks. Jerry has always searched for a coney dog that rivaled their stand. He also worked on the ferries that brought people to the Upper Peninsula before the bridge was built, along with the Mackinac Island Ferry. Following the bridge opening, Jerry moved downstate to work with MDOT to work as a drafting engineer designing roads. Jerry had four children Debra (Joe) Yock, Roger (Donna) Prior, Ben Prior and Todd Prior. He then met Sandy and they were married in 1983, in which he obtained two step-daughters, Teresa (Vic) Kingery and Andrea (Brian) Emmons. Jerry had 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He had a very special relationship with his grandson, Joe and his wife, Kelly. Jerry and Sandy had such a wonderful life. They were able to retire in 1989 at 53 and 49 years old. They enjoyed traveling to many countries and went on many cruises with friends. Jerry was a talented man. He became a master carver. You can see his carvings throughout Mackinaw City at the parks. He also enjoyed sketching. Jerry and Sandy lived for 37 years in Mackinaw City in the house they designed and built in 1983 with Mark Yoder and his father. While in Mackinaw City they attended the Church of the Straits and have a special bond with Pastor David Wallis. He will be greatly missed by all who he has touched. Jerry will be cremated and there will be a celebration of Jerry’s life at a later date at their church, Community Baptist Church.
