It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Irene Catherine Lischkge, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on March 21, 2025, at the age of 101. Born on January 6, 1924, in Portland, Michigan, to the late Alfred and Caecilia (Schneider) Schafer. Irene created a warm and loving home for her family, where she devoted her life to caring for her loved ones. Irene's greatest joy came from spending precious time with her family, creating cherished memories that will forever remain in their hearts. The laughter shared over countless games of euchre, as well as the joyful gatherings at the cottage on Bear Lake in Farwell during holidays and special occasions, brought her immense happiness. Irene's spirit shone brightly through her caring nature, and her love for family was a guiding light in their lives. Irene is survived by her four devoted children, Ann Patrick, Charlene Holzwarth, Gloria (Richard) Livingston, and Chuck Lischkge; 12 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 11 great great-grandchildren as well as her cherished siblings, Justin Schafer, Bertha Roggenbuck, and Rita Bashore. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll; sons, James "Jim" Lischkge, Robert "Bob" Lischkge; grandsons, Adam Livingston and Troy Patrick; siblings, Mildred Schafer, Dorothy Trierweiler, Esther Schafer, Marvin Schafer, Alvin Schafer, Steve Schafer, Donald Schafer, Clarence Schafer, Fred Schafer along with infant sister, Marie Schafer. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Irene’s life and legacy during the following services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 3, 2025, 11:00 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, Grand Ledge by Father James Eisele. Rite of Committal will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge. Visitation will be held at Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home in Grand Ledge on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6-8:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM and Thursday at the church from 10-11:00 AM.
