Gladys Marie Lukkarila

Gladys Marie Lukkarila age 94 passed away at St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor on December 31, 2007, with her family by her side. Born in elsie, Michigan on September 8, 1913. She was the eldest daughter of the late Almon and Rosa Page Langham. She was preceded in death by her sister Eleanore Merindorf Gilbert and her brother Leonard Langham, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Also her loving husband Albert in 1989 after 53 years of marriage. She was active in the Rebeccas in Mulliken, Michigan and she played in the Needmore Kitchen Band which performed on Wood TV out of Grand Rapids, and local fairs. She and Al farmed in Eaton County for many years and she worked along beside of him, and cooking for the thrashers, before moving to Grand Ledge. After Alberts death Gladys moved to the Chelsea Retirement Community in 2002 where she resided till her death. She and Al did a lot of ice fishing and fishing in Canada with their friends. They also have a cottage in northern Michigan which they enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. They also did a lot of camping and traveling. After Alâ€™s death Gladys did a lot of traveling with her friends. She also enjoyed decorating cakes and many different arts and crafts, and having her grandchildren and great grandchildren around. She would fish all day if you would let her. She was always ready for a good game of Euchre, whether with friends or her grandkids. She loved to dance and enjoyed music. She is survived by her daughter Sharon Eisele (Dale) of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Granddaughters Linda Reed (Jerry) and great grandchildren Susan, Michael, and David of Troy, Michigan; Cathy Beaudion (Craig) and great granddaughters Kimberly, Jennifer and Hannah of Canton, MI. Gladys is also survived by three step grandsons Donald, Douglas, and David Eisele of Chelsea, Michigan. She will be truly missed by her family and her many close friends she has made over her 94 years, there are too many to mention, but you all know who you are. Thanks to all of you for keeping in touch with her over the years. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 5, 2008, at the Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 P.M. with The Reverend Rick Yancey officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
