William “Bill” Conrad Skoog January 4, 1930 – June 2, 2019 Bill was born on January 4, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to Eino William and Edessa Wanda (Dippel) Skoog. He graduated in 1949 from Denby High School and was drafted into the United States Army. PFC William C. Skoog served in Korea with Headquarters Company, 52nd Transportation Unit during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. Bill married Irene Krentz-Beitler on 6/5/1954 and they made their home in Fraser, Michigan raising two daughters. Retiring in 1992, after spending nearly 40 years as a machinist, Bill and Irene moved permanently to Hubbard Lake, Michigan. They were 'snowbirds', spending winters in Sun City, Arizona. In June 2016 they moved to Grand Ledge, Michigan to be closer to their daughters and grandsons. Mom and Dad had a wonderful life together. Dad was the #1 best husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather in the world. He was very proud to be a Korean Conflict Veteran and life member of VFW Post #2496 in Alpena, Michigan. Dad’s hobbies included woodworking and lapidary (he was a 'Rock Hound'). Survived by his wife of nearly 65 years Irene, daughters Linda (Mark) Skoog of Charlotte, Michigan, Debbie (Ron) Pettit and grandsons William Clayton (Brittney) Pettit and Eric Lee Pettit all of Ionia, Michigan; great granddaughter, Eliza Irene Pettit; sister, Bernadine Delores Revers, of Florida, brothers-in-law Robert (Karen) Ware of Belding, Michigan, Kenneth Beitler of Arizona, Norman Beitler of Arizona, Ronald Beitler of Texas and sisters-in-law Barbara (Tom) Trooien of California, Shirley Beitler-Farnum of Arizona, and Nancy Beitler of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Bertha Ware and Reynold Beitler, brother-in-law, Harry Revers, and sisters-in-law, Lela Beitler and Beverly Beitler. A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held Saturday, June 8, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at Independence Village of Grand Ledge with Pastor Brandon Hempel, officiating. Inurnment with military honors to be held at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan at a later date.
