Shirley Annette Briggs Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Shirley Annette Briggs (Dyer) 82 of Grand Ledge passed away on May 19, 2022 with her loving family by her side. She was born on March 20, 1940 in Jackson, Michigan to the late Stanley Athel and Anna Marie (Norman) Dyer. Shirley graduated from Chelsea High School in 1958. Following graduation, she worked as a bank teller and performed secretarial duties. After starting a family, Shirley attended Lansing Community College, then Michigan State University where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Shirley taught 3rd and 5th grades at Weymouth Elementary in Charlotte while raising her four daughters. She also taught 3rd grade in Houston, Texas for Klein Independent School District at Erhardt Elementary. After retiring, Shirley returned to Grand Ledge where she met and married R. Graydon Briggs. Shirley and Graydon enjoyed many years traveling and spending time at the cottage at Bass Lake. She also loved playing board games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her husband of 16 years, R. Graydon Briggs; daughters, Tanya (Steve) Haney, Teryl Nixon, Tracy Rivera and Tamara (Michael) Neitzel; grandchildren, Emily (Eric) Frith, Eric (Katie) Haney, Nyssa (Tam) Ngu, Shaina Shapiro (Bryan), Kara (Matt) Farmer, Joshua Kennedy, Jenna Kennedy, Arianne (Justin) Young, Tyler (Rachel) Booth, Casey (TJ) Regan, Mara Kiter and Dominic Kiter; great grandchildren, Anna and Alex Frith, Conner and Tenley Haney, Lilly and Mason Ngu, Leighton, Jett and Scout Farmer, Charlotte Young, Oliver, Zoe, Everett and Stella Regan, Wyatt Kiter; sister, Beverly Sager; step-children, Joni (Ken) Fuller and Mark Briggs; step-grandchildren, Jamie (Steve) Ordiway, Garrett (Carolyn) Briggs, Heather (Travis) Howland, Amy Fuller and Denise (Nick) Boucher; step-great grandchildren, Carter and Cooper Ordiway, Keaton and Keagan Howland, Austin and Wesley Briggs along with five nieces. She was preceded in death by her brother, Stanley “Butch” Dyer and step-son, James Briggs and two nephews. A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held Saturday, July 9, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at 5902 Peachtree Drive, Grand Ledge, Michigan 48837 with a luncheon to follow.
