Melvin “Pete” Plunkett of Grand Ledge a loving father, brother, uncle and friend passed away November 5, 2017 after a long illness. Pete was born October 1, 1934, the third of twelve children of the late Edward and Aurelia (Motz) Plunkett. Pete graduated from Grand Ledge High School Class of 1953 and went on to work for Bert Howard Equipment, Motor Wheel, Montgomery Ward Warehouse and Big L Lumber for over 20 years. He enjoyed bowling, golf, baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers, and was a big Spartan fan. Pete was a big cheerleader for the G.L. Comets and volunteered many hours for the booster club for various sports. He also helped each year set up the stage for Mudge’s Follies during Yankee Doodle Days. Pete is survived by son, Dan (Debbie) Plunkett; sisters, Marilyn (Ken) Sohn, Carrie (Jerry) Gunn, Shirley (Stan) Smith, Pat (Mike) Thelen, Eine (Bud) Thelen and Lynda Plunkett; brothers, Ray (Rosemary) and Dale (Marion) Plunkett along with numerous nieces, nephews,great and great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law, Don (Jane), Phil (Irene) and Gordie (Bonnie) Plunkett. A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 9, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at the Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Grand Ledge. Interment will be at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the nurses, therapists and staff at Medilodge of Lansing (formerly TenderCare West) and Great Lakes Caring Hospice for the care they provided Pete over the past several years.
