Ellen Irene Stonehouse-Pohl

February 6, 1923 - January 3, 2017

Ellen I. Stonehouse-Pohl of Grand Ledge passed away January 3, 2017. Ellen was born February 6, 1923 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Walter and Mary (Burkholder) Osborn . She married Arnold Stonehouse and they had two sons, Thomas and Richard. Ellen was a stay at home mom. Together, Ellen and Arnold enjoyed family, golfing and traveling. After Arnold's death Ellen married Anthony Pohl on August 22, 1987. Ellen loved being mom to her new family. Tony had many hobbies and Ellen tried all of them, including learning to fly, riding in the sidecar of the Harley Davidson motorcycle and going for drives. Ellen always looked forward to family visits and phone conversations that could easily last an hour. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially Gretchen, their German Shepherd dog and Peaco, their cat. Ellen is survived by children, Linda (Charles) Griffin, Dave (Ann) Pohl, Susan (Mark) Melendy, Theresa (Harold) Sattazahn, Steven (Jody) Pohl, James (Lori) Pohl; grandchildren, Stephanie Bivins, Michele (Tim) Bogue, Robert (Julie) Wright, Michael Wright, David (Alyssa) Pohl, Susanne Pohl, Mark Melendy Jr., Kurt Melendy, Stevie Pohl, Bernard Pohl, Max Pohl and Lucie Pohl; great grandchildren, Morgan Wright, Courtney and Timothy Bogue Jr., Samantha and Jessica Bivins ; 7 great great grandchildren; nephews, Robert (Lisa) Reister, Randy Reister, Ronald Reister; great nephews, Braedon, Christopher, Ryan and Terry Reister. She was preceded in death by husband, Anthony Pohl; sons, Thomas and Richard Stonehouse; granddaughter, Wendy; daughter-in-law, Sharon Stonehouse; sister, Vera and her husband Marshall Whitman-Reister and grandson-in-law, Bob Bivins A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 6, 2017, 11 am at St. Michael Catholic Church, Grand Ledge with The Reverend Fr. James Eisele. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-4 pm and 6-8 pm with a Rosary at 7:30 pm at the Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home, Grand Ledge and Friday at the church from 10-11 am. Memorial contributions may be given to the Michigan Alzheimer's Disease Center, University of Michigan, 2101 Commenwealth Blvd., Suite D, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48105 http://alzheimers.med.umich.edu/.
