Alice L. Veltman

October 5, 1922 - August 23, 2017

Alice L. (Schrauben) Veltman, 94 years old, passed away Wednesday August 23rd; she was born on October 5, 1922 to the late John and Amelia (Feneis) Schrauben. She worked for the Grand Ledge Public Schools as a special needs bus driver. Alice was devoted to these special needs children. She was involved in her community; as a youth leader in the Mighty Minnie 4H Club and a longtime member of the Canada Settlement Ladies Aide Society. She was also a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, serving as director of funeral luncheons for almost 20 years. She enjoyed bowling, quilting, bingo, and playing cards. She loved driving her classic Oldsmobile convertible to events and car shows, often driving her friends and family members on road trips. Alice was a loving mother, grand-mother, great-grand-mother and sister. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Harry (2009), son-in-law Van Woodcock (2017), brothers Herm, Ray, Isadore, Clarence, Ed, and John, sisters Martha, Agnes and Mildred, and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Surviving are children Pat (Bill) Florian, Judy Woodcock, Carol Hall and Jim (Wendy) Veltman, grandchildren TJ (Nicole) Woodcock, Amber (Steve) Woolfenden, Jen (Dave) Meredith, Jeff (Stephanie) Florian, Ian (Janie) Hall, Evan (Teddy) Hall and Liz Veltman, great-grandchildren Madelyn, Lydia, Ellayna Meredith, Tyler Pierce, Ally and Kayla Florian and Leo Woolfenden, sister Helen Kavanaugh, brother Richard Schrauben, and sister-in-law Mae Lehman along with several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, August 28, 2017, at 11am at St. Michael Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. James Eisele, Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Deepdale Memorial Gardens, Lansing. Visitation Sunday, August 27, 2-4pm and 6-8pm with scripture service at 7:30pm at Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Grand Ledge. Alice was an exceptionally kind, generous person and she touched the lives of everyone she met. We were blessed to have her with us for 94 wonderful years. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Church, 345 Edwards St., Grand Ledge, MI 48837 or Heartland Hospice, 865 S. Cedar St., Mason, MI 48854 The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and care takers of Fairview AFC.
