Willis L. Johnston

Willis “Bill” L. Johnston, 90, of Delta Township passed away on July 26, 2023. He was born January 31, 1933, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Walter and Margaret (Grimm) Johnston. He graduated from Adams High School in South Bend and then went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bill started his design engineering career in South Bend at Bendix Corp. until moving to Lansing to work for Oldsmobile/GM in the product design division. After retiring from a long career at GM, he continued his engineering work for Troy Design in Lansing until he fully retired. Bill was a longtime faithful member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Grand Ledge. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Sandie (Haughtington); children, Kevin Johnston, Michelle Gilbert-Jensen (Jay Hartman), Tracey Johnston, Susan Patrick (Tim), and Stephen (Beth) Johnston; grandchildren, Amber (David) Field, Jessica Mitchell, Mitchell Hobner and Sophia Johnston and great-granddaughter, Haley Guest. Bill was preceded in death by his sister June Hayden and brother Jerry Johnston; his daughter, Alicia Johnston; grandchildren, Josh Gilbert, Jason Gilbert, and Cassie Mitchell. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 345 Edwards Street, Grand Ledge by The Reverend Fr. Visitation will be Thursday at the Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home, Grand Ledge from 4-7:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM and Friday at the church from 10-11:00 AM.
