Thomas Boyd Hamilton

Thomas Boyd Hamilton, a beloved lifelong resident of Grand Ledge, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on February 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 27, 1934, in Mason, Michigan, he was the cherished son of the late John F. and Burnidean V. (De Pugh) Hamilton. Tom graduated with pride from Grand Ledge High School in the Class of 1953, where he was honored to serve as Homecoming King. A dedicated patriot, Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army from March 1955 to March 1957, attaining the rank of Private First Class. He embraced many roles throughout his life, working for General Motors as a Supervisor in Material Handling, where his commitment and expertise were truly valued. Tom held a deep connection to his faith, being a longtime member of the Grand Ledge Church of the Nazarene and, later in life, the Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church. His passion for life extended beyond his work and faith; he was known for his love of collecting coins, especially pennies, which he delighted in gifting to his family. He cherished the ocean, often reminiscing about his long walks on the beach where he would collect shark’s teeth and shells. His adventurous spirit led him on cherished trips to the Western United States and the majestic Devil's Tower National Monument, as well as family camping outings at Lake Margrethe and vacations in Englewood, Florida. Tom and Carol enjoyed taking trips and traveling to North Carolina, Europe, and Mexico with good friends George and Vickie Hunter. Tom was not only handy with home improvement projects, but he was also a fixture in the community, often found at the Grand Ledge A&W table of knowledge, where he shared conversations and laughter while tackling the world’s problems with his friends. Tom’s legacy lives on through his loving family, including his devoted wife, Carol (Sanborn); sons Thomas (Kristie) and Timothy Hamilton; daughters Tina (Kirt) Chapin and Terri (Denny) Lay; grandchildren Ashley (special partner Tim Radee) Hamiton, Laura Hamilton, Trenton Hufnagel, Jordan (Zack) Patterson, Miranda Hamilton, Sydney (Steven) McCracken, Zac Chapin, Makenzie Chapin, Jackson Chapin, Caleb Lay, Chloe Lay, and Hailee Lay; great-grandchildren Login Kristofferson, Wyatt Stanton, Luca Patterson, Addy Patterson, Luna McCracken, and Zane Chapin. He will also be missed by his many longtime friends within the community and his coffee buddies. Tom was preceded in death by his infant sister, Shirley Mae Hamilton and foster brother, Norman Rust. Family, friends, and community members are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Tom's life during a memorial service scheduled for February 24, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Followed by a Military Graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Following the Military Graveside Service at Oakwood Cemetery the family will be hosting a memorial luncheon at the Grand Ledge Masonic Hall, 200 W. River Street.
