Terri Lynn Smith

Terri Lynn Smith of Lansing passed away April 14, 2024. Terri was born July 19, 1942, in Lansing, Michigan to the late Donald H. and Dorothy A. (Fairbanks) Sessions. She graduated from Perry High School in the Class of 1960. Terri worked alongside her husband for many years with several businesses they owned and operated. She later worked in the Registrar’s Office and as an Exam Proctor at Cooley Law School, until her retirement. Terri was a proud accomplished seamstress of nearly 40 years, well known for her skill in altering wedding gowns. With nimble fingers and a keen eye for detail, she transformed countless dresses for generations of brides. Her craftsmanship brought joy to brides and families alike, and her passion for her work was evident in every stitch. Whether she was at her sewing machine, bringing dreams to life with delicate lace and intricate beading, or sharing laughter and stories with loved ones, Terri approached life with a quick wit and keen sense of humor. She was also an avid Spartan fan. She and Dave watched hundreds of MSU basketball and football games over the years. Terri was a devoted wife and mother and cherished her role as grandma and great-grandma. She was one of a kind and will be missed by her loving family, friends, and the many lives that she touched. She is survived by her husband of over 62 years, David Smith; daughters, Lori (James) Hooker and Kim (Kirk) Hennig; grandchildren, Alyssa (Sam) Winnig, Heather (James) Lynn, Danielle (Chris) Glass, Elizabeth (Matt) Harter, and Patrick Hooker; great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Ashton, Skylar, Cora, William, Chase, and Elliott; siblings, Roze Gunderman, Marti Parks, Shirley Heikkinen, Deanna Abreu, Dale Sessions, Roland “Chip” Dansby, and Loren Black. Terri was preceded in death by her toddler daughter, Lisa Gail Smith, great-granddaughter, Ava Susan Winnig, and siblings, Pam Gordon, Sharon Olson, and Don Sessions. Please join us as we gather to honor and celebrate Terri's life on Sunday, May 19th at the Greater Lansing Youth For Christ building, 5222 Dumond Court, Lansing MI 48917. There will be a brief memorial service, followed by refreshments and time to share stories, memories and smiles as we remember Terri. Please feel free to stop in anytime between 2 and 4pm.
