Lou Anne Vaughn-Bremer If you knew Lou Anne, chances are you have a story about her. More likely, you have one that she told you. Lou Anne Vaughn-Bremer passed away suddenly on July 31, 2026. True to the way she lived, it was quick, and she left behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, colorful opinions, animals, and people whose lives were better because she happened to be in them. Lou Anne was born in Flint, Michigan, to Mary Lou and Ed Vaughn. She grew up in Burton, Michigan and graduated from Bentley High School in 1975. At just 18 years old, she met the love of her life, Don Bremer, who was 40. Together they built a life filled with adventure, countless motorcycle and dog show trips across the country, very hard work, and enough stories to entertain anyone willing to take the time to listen. In 1983, Lou Anne and Don became guardians to Jessica, raising her as their own-even through the pain-in-the-ass teenage years. They provided a home, guidance, and unconditional love, helping shape Jessica into the woman she is today. After years of experience in the restaurant and bar business throughout the Lansing and Haslett areas, Lou Anne and Don purchased the Log Jam Inn in Grand Ledge in 1988. For the next 20 years, the Log Jam became much more than a business. It was where friendships were made, countless employees got their start, regulars and staff became family, and Lou Anne found an endless supply of stories. If you spent enough time at the Log Jam, chances are you became part of one. When Don passed away in 2012, he took a big piece of Lou Anne's heart with him. Though life was never quite the same, she remained in their beloved home in the "100 Acre Woods," living independently and exactly as she wanted. She found joy in the woods and river that surrounded her and could often be found on "'Ol Johnny", her John Deere tractor, making sure her sprawling lawn was always well kept. She also found great happiness in the animals she loved so much. Over the years, she welcomed countless dogs and cats into her home, and no raccoon, skunk, deer, or other wandering critter ever left her property hungry. In the summer of 2025, Lou Anne welcomed Don's grandson, Jerimy, into her home. What quickly followed was "Grandma Lou Anne's Boot Camp," where lessons in saving money, responsibility, and becoming a self-sufficient adult were taught with equal parts love and blunt honesty. It was exactly what Jerimy needed, and honestly, it was exactly what Lou Anne needed too. To describe Lou Anne is nearly impossible without a few contradictions. She was fiercely independent and incredibly generous. She had a razor-sharp wit, a fierce temper, and very few filters. She could make you laugh until your sides hurt, tell you exactly what she thought whether you asked or not, and then quietly go out of her way to help someone in need without ever expecting recognition. She loved deeply, even if she didn't always say it out loud. Lou Anne is survived by her almost-daughter, Jessica Mulvaney (Shane); her grandson, Connor Mulvaney; Don's son, Garry Bremer (Karen); Don's grandchildren, Jerimy Bremer and Lindsay Bremer; her uncle Jeff Bailey (Joanne), her stepmother, Wanda Vaughn; and many extended family members, lifelong friends, former employees, customers, and neighbors whose lives she touched over the years. The stories won't end with Lou Anne. They'll keep getting told-because if something memorable happened, chances are she was right in the middle of it.
