Kathleen Kay Cook

Kathleen Kay Cook of Delta Township went to be with the Lord on January 23, 2024. Kathy was born June 29, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah to the late Edward and Myrtle (McElroy) Murphy. Kathy was a talented artist in various mediums and known for her artistic touch in and on everything in her life. Whether it was behind the camera lens capturing the perfect shot, painting flowers on her garden shed, creating beautiful paintings/sketches/watercolors, or adding a “Y” to the Sport decal on her much loved 1997 2-door Tahoe Sport-y. She was known to say “Anything that doesn’t run faster than me gets painted or wallpapered!” She had a love for gardening and created an award-winning yard. It was usually while gardening she’d meet a new cat that was in need of an extra meal or two or a welcoming home. Kathy was a founding member of the Community Baptist Church where she felt blessed to play piano or organ during services for many of those early years. She served in a number of different ways but seemed to always be interested in helping children to come to know Jesus. She helped to teach Sunday School or paint children’s faces during youth activities. Kathy was everyone’s “other” Mom or Grandma and her family felt blessed that others got to also share in her love and attention. She was a kind, gentle loving person who will be missed by her family, her church family, and by the many lives that she touched. She is survived by her children, Ron (Ann) Cook and Leslie (Barry) Schroeder, grandchildren, Jenni (Alan) Schnelker and Nolan (Sierra Harns) Cook; great-grandchildren, Sophie and Jackson Schnelker; siblings, Jerry (Suzanne) Murphy, Jim Whiting and Dixie. Kathy was preceded in death by her husband Verne in 2006 and her best friend, Wendy Jackson. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024, 11:00 am at the Community Baptist Church, 7832 W. Mt. Hope Highway, Grand Ledge, Michigan 48837 with Pastor Timothy W. Jackson, officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at the Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home, Grand Ledge from 5-8:00 pm and Saturday at the church from 10-11:00 am.
