Jonathan Paul Gilbert

Jonathan P. Gilbert, age 52, loving husband of thirty years to Melissa S. Gilbert (nee Smith, David and Peggy), departed from a tragic ATV accident, Saturday, November 6, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald P. Gilbert, and mother, Peggy J. Becker. He is survived by his four children, Nicholas Jon, Emily Morgan, Sarah Elizabeth, and Megan Christine, whom he adored, and his sister Heather J. Aguillon and her daughter, Taylor. He was a graduate of Grand Ledge High School, class of 1988, and Alma College, class of 1992, throughout which he actively participated in each school’s football program. Carrying on with his well-known sports tradition, he coached hockey at Holt High School, played in several local men’s ice hockey leagues (particularly the Peﬂeafs), and actively supported Calvin College’s Women’s Lacrosse team, where his youngest daughter, Megan, is still playing. Jon enjoyed numerous and varied interests and hobbies, almost too many to innumerate. He was particularly interested in the Gilbert lake cottage, where family activities, games, and campﬁres reigned and he became an expert boat driver, teaching numerous kids to tube and wakeboard. He was everyone’s “Macgyver”, ﬁxing virtually anything mechanical, in carpentry, or with computers, all of which he seemed to have the touch to make another’s life a bit better and easier, a knack he carried into his personal relationships. He truly will be missed by everyone whose life he directly touched and even those too, who were unaware of his graciousness in life with his time and efforts that brought so much joy and pleasure to all. “He will always be our CHAMPION”! A memorial service will be held Friday, November 11, 2022, 2:00 PM at the Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8:00 PM and Friday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM.
