John "Jack" Delano Summers

John “Jack” Delano Summers of Delta Township formerly of Traverse City passed away June 13, 2023 with his family by his side. Jack was born July 30, 1927 in East Grand Rapids to the late Elmer and Maurine (Grosjean) Summers. He graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in Grand Rapids in the Class of 1945. After graduating he proudly served his country in the Unites States Navy during WW II and upon his return from service Jack attended the University of Michigan where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. He worked for two material handling firms, Maxco and Planet Corporation, retiring as the Purchasing Director for Planet Corp. With his work as an Engineer Jack was mechanically inclined and wanted to make sure everything was “just so”. He was an active faithful member of St. David’s Episcopal Church. He enjoyed fishing, golf outings and cribbage with his nephew Chris, cribbage games with Stephanie and Tim and many of his family and friends would most often seeing him sporting a ballcap. He loved U of M football and basketball, and also enjoyed watching pro golf tournaments on television on the weekends. Jack was blessed to live a long wonderful life and enjoyed great health until just recently. He will be missed by his family and many friends for the impact he made on their lives. He is survived by his children, Mark (Jolene) Summers, Michele (Derrell) Woods, Stephanie Cote’ and Darr Summers; grandchildren, Megan Cote’, Katelyn (Eli) Moore, Madison Cote’, Danielle Summers, Lindsay Summers, Emily Summers, John Summers II, Brittany Woods, Sam Woods, Levi Summers, Nathan Summers and Jayla Woods; great granddaughter, Odessa Moore. Jack was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosemary (Kutchey) Summers on May 22, 1984; second wife, Lois Stevens Summers on December 6, 2016; sister, Jean Chadwick and son-in-law, Timothy Cote’. A memorial service with Military Honors will be held Monday June 19, 2023, 2:00 PM at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 1519 Elmwood Road, Lansing, Michigan 48917 with The Reverend Canon Dr. Tracie Little, officiating. Visitation will be at the church Monday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. A private family inurnment will take place at Graceland Memorial Park in Grand Rapids at a later time.
