Joann L. Barclay

It is with great love and a profound sense of loss that we celebrate the life of Joann Leone Barclay, who peacefully departed this world on May 21, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on January 4, 1939, in Greenville, Michigan, to the late Kenneth and Myrtle (Newman) Dopp, Joann filled her life with joy, love, and friendship. Joann was a proud member of the Carson City High School Class of 1957 and embraced the role of a devoted homemaker as she raised her beloved children, Duane and Mary Jo. Her passion for service led her back into the workforce as an Administrative Assistant in a medical office, where she dedicated herself to supporting others. Her deep Christian faith guided her life. Joann was an active, faithful member of both Holt Baptist Church and Colonial Village Baptist Church, where she touched many lives through her service and joyous singing in the choir. The friendships she cultivated over the years were a testament to her warm spirit and welcoming heart. Joann found immense joy in family traditions, including cherished memories made at Rocky's Campground, where she and her husband, Leonard, relished weekend getaways and camping in their 5th wheel on many family trips. As avid motorcyclists, they took to the open road together on their Honda Gold Wing, forming lasting bonds through the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) and enjoying countless adventurous trips with friends. She was more than just a devoted wife of over 65 years to her husband Leonard; she was a proud mother of Duane (Midge) and Mary Jo (Mark) Cartwright, an adoring grandmother to Melissa (Jon) Barrows, Tim Barclay, and Josh (Jill) Cartwright, and a delighted great-grandmother to Brielle, Eliza, Tucker, Treager, and Thalia . Joann's love for her family knew no bounds, and her legacy of kindness and joy will live on through them. A celebration of Joann's remarkable life will be held on May 30, 2025, 11:00 am at the Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Friends and family are invited to attend visitation at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4:00 pm and 6-8:00 pm and Friday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Interment will be at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Holt following a luncheon at the Community Baptist Church in Grand Ledge.
