James Walter Giffen Sr.

James Walter Giffen Sr. of Lansing went to be with the Lord June 16, 2021. Jim was born June 1, 1946 in Lansing, Michigan to the late Homer and Leona (Spellman) Giffen. He attended Bath High School and went on to proudly served his country in the Army of the United States. Jim was a truck driver and drove for Voorhorst Trucking. Even though Jim’s career had him on the road a lot he still enjoyed taking road trips with his wife, Davida. He was a longtime faithful member of Towar Heart Baptist Church in East Lansing where is served in several areas including organizing the annual church canoe trip. Jim enjoyed putting puzzles together, playing cards, dice games with special friends and snow plowing, he even taught Davida how to plow. He loved Christmas, and looked forward to family coming home and decorating the house with a lot of lights inside and out. Jim would also would make his yearly trip up north near Cadillac to bring home Christmas trees and sell them in the front yard and had many happy return customers! This was his passion! He is survived by his wife, Davida A. (Keller); sons, James W. (Sharon) Giffen Jr., Jeffrey (Kathy) Giffen, Jason (Trish) Giffen; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; step-son, Carl (Seul) Hans; siblings, Ramona (Danny) LaPoint and Don Giffen. Jim was preceded in death by his great granddaughter, Brigid Valentine Coolidge. A Celebration of Jim’s life with Military Honors will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021, 12:00 p.m. at Towar Hart Baptist Church, 6157 Towar Avenue, East Lansing, Michigan 48823.
