Eric Conrad Kempf

Eric Conrad Kempf of Lansing passed away August 28, 2026. He was a devoted and loving son and brother, and loyal friend. Eric loved all sports and was a good athlete. Eric was born November 22, 1964 in Lansing, Michigan the youngest of five children of the late Norman and Vivian (Tegels) Kempf. He attended Lansing schools graduating from Harry Hill in 1982 in the last graduating class. As a boy he played little league and taught himself to play golf by hitting balls with his brother Mark at the neighborhood field. He loved playing basketball and played in many Gus Macker Tournaments. Eric started playing softball when he was 16 and played for Arts Bar and a number of other teams. He bowled at Pro Bowl West and Royal Scot in various men’s leagues and rolled his first of many 300 games in 1997. He was a good golfer and played in leagues at Chisholm Hills, Eagle View, Eldorado and Hawk Hollow. The last round of golf he played was in a 9-hole league at Eldorado Golf Course where he shot a 3-over par 39. Eric was a fierce competitor regardless of the sport. Eric went to work at Meijer while in high school starting part time in the toy department at Christmas, moving to pet and garden in the spring and then transitioning to full time in produce and eventually grocery. He was a hard worker and this was his 43rd year with the company. He is survived by his siblings; Norman “Mark” Kempf, Cindy (Sean) Douglas, and Deborah (Don) Myers; nephews, Chad and Peter Kempf; great-nieces, Elizabeth and Victoria; and dog nephew, Barkley. Eric was preceded in death by his mother and father and brother, Doug. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 5, 2026, 10:30 AM at Cristo Rey Church by Father Vincent Richardson. Rite of Committal will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge. Visitation will be Friday at the Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00 PM and Saturday at the Church from 9:30-10:30 AM.
